HMGS East encourages all game Masters to run their best game especially during Historicon. While any game run is eligible to receive the Battle Streamer award - during each time slot (morning, afternoon and night) we will have the PELA award which will be a historical based game.

Judges Criteria for Game Master Recognition

PELA Awards & GM Battle Streamers

Roughly speaking, these awards go to the games that best embodies what HMGS is all about and display the positive traits of miniature gaming - well-painted figures, great-looking terrain, interesting scenarios, enjoyable rules, good sportsmanship, an enjoyable time - basically events that do the most to "encourage the others".

Foremost: Game Master Award judging Criteria is inevitably subjective; thus GM judges should strive to identify and select as many events as HE/SHE DETERMINES should deserve some form of recognition.

Judging will take place three times a day. We need volunteer judges to show up at the GM Help desk for judging so please feel free to volunteer! You will not have to judge alone as we want a minimum of 3-4 judges to go around and afterwards meet for 15 minutes to correlate the information. Total time commitment is 2-3 hours, you get to see all the games being run, and you will have the gratitude of the GM Help desk! So please help out and have some fun! 1. Judges will select approximately 10% of the events per time slot for “GM Battle Streamers”
2. One PELAA (Pour Encourager Les Autres Awards - "encourage the others") (Best of Time Slot—historical only) is selected per time slot (AM - PM - Night)
3. One “Best of Show” for the Convention
4. One “Best Theme Event” for the Convention
5. General Evaluation Criteria (for reference only):
   1. APPEARANCE: Impressive terrain, figures or models (approx. 1/3)
   2. PARTICIPATION: Players are visibly (or if asked) enjoying the game (approx. 1/3)
   3. INNOVATION: GM talent, technique or other exceptional method (approx. 1/3)
   4. GM EFFORT: Mega-Games (12+) or GM running multiple (4+) events (relative)
6. SCREENING CRITERIA. To qualify for an HMGS Award, an event must be Historical, must be Miniatures, Must be a Game Mastered event, Must be a traditional open participation event, and must be a complete Game. (i.e. No Non-Historical. No Non-miniatures. No Tourneys using players own materials, no closed participation events, and No “Game Rules Instruction” Demo’s.)
7. Judges will CHECK ALL PREVIOUS TIME SLOT AWARDS FOR THE SHOW : NO REPEAT AWARDS WILL BE GIVEN for the same game. If one GM gets TWO Streamers for the exact same event, then one other deserving GM will not be recognized. One GM may receive multiple awards for varied events.
